DHHS INTERPRETING SERVICES BOOKING PROCEDURES
Organizations providing a service to a Deaf person including Government, private business and non-profit organizations must make their services accessible by providing Sign Language Interpreters at no cost to the Deaf person. DHHS will charge the organization providing the service as a Fee for Service.
DHHS also has a contract with Alberta Seniors & Community Supports to provide Interpreters in medical settings covered by Alberta Health Care. In addition, United Way provides funding in Calgary only to provide Interpreters in social settings.
Booking requests may be made by either the Deaf client or the organization providing the service to the Deaf client. DHHS will confirm all details with the person making the request.
To book a Fee for Service appointment, DHHS requires the following:
•Approval in writing (mail, email or fax) of the fee and associated cancelation policies.
•Credit card pre-approval for any organization that does not have a contract with DHHS.
•Deaf client name.
•Deaf client contact information.
•Deaf client Alberta Health Care number (for hospital appointments).
•Organization name and appointment address.
•Appointment description and relevant details.
•Billing contact person.
•Billing address.
•Billing phone.
•Billing email.
To book all other appointment types (non-fee for service), DHHS requires the following:
•Deaf client name.
•Deaf client contact information.
•Organization name and appointment address.
•Appointment site contact name and phone number.
When payment pre-approval has been confirmed, DHHS will attempt to book an Interpreter and inform the requestor of the booking status.
Note that bookings made indirectly via Sign Language Interpreters require verification from the Deaf client and the organization providing service. As such, DHHS will require all information outlined above.
