Rates

DHHS charges a flat fee for all bookings up to two hours and an hourly charge thereafter. Note that in accordance with the standards outlined by the Association of Visual Language Interpreters of Canada (AVLIC), any booking over one hour may require two Interpreters thus doubling the flat fee. The need for additional Interpreters is at the discretion of DHHS and will be quoted accordingly, in advance of the booking.

Interpreting services are not charged to Deaf consumers. To review the DHHS payment models, visit the Request an Interpreter section of this site.

Standard Fees

Flat Fee: $120 per Interpreter for up to two hours.
Hourly Fee: $60 per hour, per Interpreter for subsequent hours.
Partial hours are rounded to the next full hour.

Charitable Organization Fees

Flat Fee: $110 per Interpreter for up to two hours.
Hourly Fee: $55 per hour, per Interpreter for subsequent hours.
Partial hours are rounded to the next full hour.

Court Fees

Flat Fee: $150 per Interpreter for up to two hours.
Hourly Fee: $75 per hour, per Interpreter for subsequent hours.
Partial hours are rounded to the next full hour.

Travel, Mileage and Per Diem

Travel time and mileage are charged for bookings at locations outside of Edmonton or Calgary city limits and will be calculated from the Interpreter’s home. Travel Time: Full hourly rate for each Interpreter
Mileage: $0.46 per km, per Interpreter, round trip.

Bookings that require overnight travel will include hotel, air and ground transportation as well as per diem.
Per Diem: $42 per day (Breakfast: $12, Lunch: $14, Dinner: $16)

Preparation

Preparation materials should be provided a minimum of one business day in advance of the booking. Paid preparation time may be required depending on the level of complexity and will be negotiated in advance.

Breaks

Interpreters require regular breaks and a paid lunch break for full day assignments. If the Interpreter is required to interpret conversation over the lunch break, this should be communicated in advance.

Cancelation Policy

Cancelations must be received during regular business hours and be confirmed by the Booking Coordinator. Cancelations that do not meet the following criteria will be charged the full fee:

Assignments that are 4 hours or less require 2 business days notice for cancellation. Assignments from 5 Hours to 4 days require 3 business days notice for cancellation. Assignments more than 4 days in duration require 7 business days notice for cancellation.
