Choose a Qualified Interpreter
DHHS has the most stringent Interpreter qualification standards in Alberta. These standards serve to protect the interests of both our Deaf and hearing clients. When you book any of the Interpreters listed below through DHHS you are guaranteed to get an Interpreter who:
• Has graduated from an accredited Interpreter training program
• Is a member in good standing with Association of Visual Language Interpreters of Canada (AVLIC)
• Has successfully completed the AVLIC Written Test of Knowledge
• Has successfully completed the DHHS screening test, the only one of its kind in Alberta
• Is covered by Professional Errors and Omissions Liability Insurance when booked through DHHS
• Submits criminal record checks annually
• Submits Alberta Children’s Services Intervention Record checks annually
Certification Legend:
• AVLIC COI = Certificate of Interpretation – Canada’s highest level of certification.
• RID NIC, NIC Advanced, NIC Master – Certification levels of the American Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf
