After School Literacy

Purpose of the Program:
To provide literacy guidance to Deaf or hard of hearing students from Grade 1 – 12. Deaf and hard of hearing students can experience difficulties in academic settings due to a lack of language skills at an early age. The program is designed to help students acheive increased literacy. In addition to the one on one tutoring, parents are provided with tools to support their childs learning.

Who are the tutors?
The tutors are Deaf, hard of hearing, or hearing individuals with excellent English and American Sign Language skills.

How often do the tutoring sessions occur?
The sessions are held at least once a week for one hour per session at an agreed upon time. The sessions occur in the student’s home with the parent present.
