Our Deaf Services Coordinator provides information, referrals and support to families affected by deafness or hearing loss.
Interpreting Services
The Canadian Human Rights Act recognizes that persons with disabilities have a right to full integration and participation in society. DHHS provides ongoing Sign Language Interpreting services through qualified sign language interpreters in a range of settings from medical to legal, employment to leisure. Our program offers a 24-hour emergency service and is recognized as a leader in Canada.
Hard of Hearing
We provide classes designed to teach hard of hearing individuals Speechreading, which is lip-reading and a variety of additional communication strategies.
Hearing Loss Prevention
Noise pollution is the number one cause of hearing loss today. Our hard of hearing presenters take a proactive approach to the prevention of noise induced hearing loss.
Tinnitus Program
Tinnitus is the perception of a sound that has no external source. In almost all cases, tinnitus is a subjective noise, meaning that only the person who has tinnitus can hear it. We offer 5 public lectures a year in addition to support & referrals.
Student Literacy
To provide literacy guidance to Deaf or hard of hearing students. The program is designed to help students acheive increased literacy. In addition to the one on one tutoring of the student, parents are provided with tools to support their childs learning.
