Welcome to the Deaf & Hard of Hearing Society
Deaf and Hard of Hearing Society (DHHS) is a registered charity that supports the Deaf and hard of hearing communities in Alberta. We provide programs, classes, equipment and services including ASL (American Sign Language), Interpreting to address the needs of children, adults and their families affected by hearing loss.
DHHS is also committed to raising public awareness about this “invisible” disability which affects 23 per cent of adults in Canada according to a survey by the Canadian Hearing Society.
Sign Language Courses
Deaf and Hard of Hearing Society is Calgary’s premier provider of American Sign Language (ASL) courses. We offer the curriculum-based series Signing Naturally at beginner, intermediate and advanced levels. Unique to DHHS is a family-focused ASL course emphasizing vocabulary commonly used within the home. DHHS also offers customized ASL classes for your workplace and designed specifically for your situation.
Equipment assesment initiative
Equipment assessment initiative
DHHS is pleased to announce a new equipment assessment initiative. In addition to our popular individual hearing assessments, DHHS is now offering facility and site assessments, and will recommend equipment solutions for large rooms and buildings, to enhance comfort, safety and enjoyment for those with a hearing loss.
