Deaf and Hard of Hearing Society (DHHS) is a registered charity that supports the Deaf and hard of hearing communities in Alberta. We provide programs, classes, equipment and services to address the needs of children, adults and their families affected by hearing loss.

Sign Language Courses

Deaf and Hard of Hearing Society is Calgary’s premier provider of American Sign Language (ASL) courses. We offer the curriculum-based series Signing Naturally at beginner, intermediate and advanced levels. Unique to DHHS is a family-focused ASL course emphasizing vocabulary commonly used within the home. DHHS also offers customized ASL classes for your workplace and designed specifically for your situation.

Equipment Assessments

The Equipment Department provides comprehensive technical support for those who are Deaf or hard of hearing. Individuals can make an appointment for a consultation with our knowledgeable Equipment Specialist to find equipment that improves hearing in a variety of situations. A range of signalling devices are also available. DHHS also conducts assessments for buildings and group gathering spaces to make them accessible for those with hearing loss.
